The Durban Film Office (DFO) has opened applications for its 2026/2027 Development and Micro-Budget Film Fund cycle. Operating under the eThekwini Municipality, the program invites local South African writers, directors, and production companies to pitch original narrative feature or documentary concepts, offering strategic project development grants and low-budget production equity to foster cultural storytelling.

The funding pool targets local regional production entities and creators. According to the Durban Film Office Program Overview, the program is "designed to support intermediate to experienced producers based in eThekwini who are developing feature fiction or documentary projects." The Micro-Budget track is limited to "local emerging filmmakers and encourages the production of content in order to stimulate the local film industry." Principal photography must be located within the eThekwini Municipality.
